New to Solterra in Mesquite? Here's a Gym Worth the Short Drive
Solterra is one of the biggest things happening in Mesquite right now. A 1,400-acre master-planned community by Huffines Communities with 10+ builders, a treehouse park built by Treehouse Masters, an 8-acre amenity center with three pools, pickleball courts, a stocked fishing pond, and 15 miles of trails. It’s massive, and it’s filling up fast.
But here’s the thing — Solterra’s amenity center has a fitness center, and for a lot of residents, it’s fine for a casual workout. If all you need is a treadmill and a few dumbbells, it gets the job done.
If you need more than that, though — real squat racks, heavy free weights, personal training, a dedicated Kids Zone — it’s time to look beyond the neighborhood. And the best option might not be west toward Dallas. It might be east toward Forney.
Why Forney Instead of Dallas?
When Solterra residents think “gym,” the instinct is to look toward Mesquite or Dallas — more people, more options, right? But those options come with I-635 traffic, crowded parking lots, and massive chain gyms where you’re member #47,832.
TX Fitness is about 12–15 minutes east on I-20 from Solterra. The drive is against traffic in the morning, the parking lot isn’t a battle, and the gym itself has a completely different feel than anything in the Mesquite–Dallas corridor.
What TX Fitness Has That Solterra’s Fitness Center Doesn’t
Serious Strength Equipment
- Dumbbells from 5 to 120+ lbs
- Multiple squat racks with platforms
- Bench press stations (flat, incline, decline)
- Plate-loaded machines — leg press, hack squat, Smith machine
- Full cable crossover area
If you’ve outgrown your community gym or you were never satisfied with it to begin with, this is the upgrade.
A Supervised Kids Zone
Solterra’s amenity center doesn’t offer childcare while you work out. TX Fitness does. The Kids Zone is supervised, clean, and built to keep your children entertained. For parents — especially during summer when the kids are out of school — this is the difference between working out and not working out.
Personal Training
TX Fitness has certified personal trainers on staff who can build a program based on your specific goals — whether that’s weight loss, muscle building, injury recovery, or just figuring out where to start. This isn’t something a community fitness center provides.
Functional Training Space
Beyond the traditional weight floor, TX Fitness has a dedicated area with turf, sleds, battle ropes, and open space for circuits and HIIT-style training. If you’re bored with machines and want something that challenges you differently, this is where it happens.
The Community Difference
Solterra is built around community — block parties, HOA events, neighbors who wave when you walk by. TX Fitness has that same small-town energy. It’s been locally owned in Forney since 2001, and the atmosphere reflects it. Staff know your name. Members talk to each other. It doesn’t feel like a transaction — it feels like a place you belong.
That’s hard to find at a big-box gym off I-635.
Making It Work From Solterra
The drive from Solterra to TX Fitness is straightforward: I-20 East to US-80, and you’re there. Here’s how Solterra families are fitting it in:
- Early morning — TX Fitness opens at 5:00 AM. Train before the commute and you’re back in Solterra by 6:30.
- Weekend family sessions — bring the kids, use the Kids Zone, and combine the trip with errands in Forney
- After-work sessions — heading east on I-20 after work avoids the worst of the Dallas-bound traffic
At $19 biweekly, it’s less expensive than most gyms closer to Dallas — and you get more space, better equipment, and a better atmosphere.
Come See the Difference
If Solterra’s fitness center isn’t cutting it — or if you’re ready for a gym that matches the investment you made in your home — TX Fitness is worth the short drive east.
