Parks and Trails in Rockwall and Heath: A Fall Family Guide
Rockwall County gets something Kaufman County doesn’t: a big lake and the terrain that comes with it. From September through November it’s the best outdoor stretch of the year. Here’s the map.
Harry Myers Park, Rockwall
815 E Washington St. The anchor park in Rockwall, and it’s genuinely loaded:
- Three playgrounds, including a large structure with swings, a zipline, and a warped wall
- Walking trails
- Three ponds and fishing
- Two baseball fields
- Swimming pool and a sprayground
- Skate park
- Dog park
- Outdoor amphitheater — concerts and events through the year
- Community building, BBQ grills, gazebo, picnic areas
The zipline and warped wall are the draw for elementary-age kids. The trails are the draw for you.
Heath: Towne Center Park
Circled by a paved trail that continues into the Highlands of Heath neighborhood — which is what makes it useful for adults, not just kids. You can actually get distance in.
On-site: soccer, football, and baseball/softball fields, a playground, and a stone pavilion with picnic tables.
Heath: The Reserve Nature Trails
The newer and quieter option. The Reserve nature trails are accessible from Chris Cuny Boulevard next to Heath High School, or from the paved path that loops around Tom Thumb.
Nature trail rather than paved loop, which means better for a real walk and worse for a stroller. Know which one you’re bringing.
Heath: The Waterfront
Heath’s waterfront park has a two-lane boat ramp, walking trails, and landscaping. Lake Ray Hubbard access is the thing Heath has that nowhere inland does, and October on the water is about as good as North Texas gets.
Golf, Briefly
Rockwall has three courses — one public, two private — with roughly 28 more within 20 miles.
Rockwall Golf & Athletic Club is a 7,281-yard par 72 with lake views and plenty of public tee times. Clubhouse renovations were slated to wrap in summer 2026.
Buffalo Creek Golf Club is a par-71 design that pulls players from across the Metroplex.

The Fall Sports Overlay
Worth remembering that this is also football season, and the 2026 realignment put Rockwall and Rockwall-Heath in District 10-6A with Forney and North Forney. The crosstown game is now the November 6 season finale. Full schedules here.
So realistically: Friday nights are gone, Saturdays are partly gone, and the park time competes with everything else.
What the Parks Give You and What They Don’t
Trails and open space are excellent cardio and excellent for kids. What they don’t give you is progressive loading — adding weight over time, which is the single variable that decides whether you’re stronger next spring or just the same with more miles on you.

The other thing: this whole plan has a shelf life of about ten weeks. December through February in North Texas is not trail weather. The people whose routines survive winter set up the indoor half in October, not January.
The Indoor Half
We’re at 127 E US Highway 80 in Forney — roughly 20–25 minutes from Heath down FM 740 and 548, and around 25 from Rockwall proper. Over 10,000 sq ft, full free-weight floor, machines, infrared saunas, locker rooms with showers, locally owned since 2001.
Hours: 5 a.m.–11 p.m. Monday–Thursday, 5 a.m.–10 p.m. Friday, 6 a.m.–9 p.m. weekends.
$19 every two weeks for an adult. Family plans start at $31 and carry no annual fee at all. The Kids Zone covers ages 1–11, Monday–Saturday 8 a.m.–1 p.m. and weekdays 4–8 p.m.
The Kids Zone is a supervised play area for parents exercising at TX Fitness — not a licensed child-care facility, and not regulated by the State of Texas.
Our free HIIT class runs Saturdays at 9 a.m. in Studio X — 50 minutes, coach-led, free, open to non-members. If you’re coming down for a district game anyway, the 7-day free trial stacks onto the trip. No card required.
