Forney ISD and Crandall ISD 2026-27 Calendars (And the Two-Week Spring Break)
School starts this week. Here are both district calendars in one place, plus one scheduling quirk in March that’s worth knowing about now rather than discovering in February.
The Two Calendars Side by Side
| Forney ISD | Crandall ISD | |
|---|---|---|
| First day | Wed, Aug 12, 2026 | Thu, Aug 13, 2026 |
| Fall Break | Oct 12–16 | Oct 12–16 |
| Thanksgiving | Nov 23–27 | Nov 23–27 |
| Winter Break | Dec 21 – Jan 1 (return Jan 5) | Dec 21 – Jan 1 (return Jan 6) |
| Spring Break | Mar 8–12, 2027 | Mar 15–19, 2027 |
| Last day | Thu, May 20, 2027 | Thu, May 20, 2027 |
Mostly they line up. Fall break, Thanksgiving, and the last day of school are identical. Then March happens.
The Two-Week Spring Break
Forney ISD’s spring break is March 8–12. Crandall ISD’s is March 15–19. They don’t overlap at all.
If you’ve got kids in one district and your neighbors, coworkers, or in-laws have kids in the other, that’s two consecutive weeks where somebody’s kids are out of school. Practically, this means:
- If your household spans both districts — say, a Heartland address with a job in Forney, or split custody across the line — you’re covering two separate weeks of childcare, not one.
- Travel gets easier to stagger. Two different weeks means less competition for the same flights and hotel rates within the local market.
- Youth sports and camps get complicated. Anything drawing from both districts will be missing a chunk of kids for two straight weeks.
- Local businesses see a double wave. If you’re planning anything around spring break traffic, it’s two weeks, not one.
Worth putting on the calendar in August, because by February the good options are gone.
Remember that Heartland is Crandall ISD, not Forney ISD — that catches people every year. We wrote up which district serves which Forney neighborhood if you’re not certain about yours.
Crandall ISD Bell Times
Crandall publishes theirs for 2026-27:
- Elementary — 7:55 a.m. to 3:40 p.m.
- Middle — 7:20 a.m. to 3:05 p.m.
- High — 8:25 a.m. to 4:10 p.m.
Building a Routine Around the Bell
The first few weeks of a school year are when family routines get set for the next nine months. A few things that work for parents here:
The 5 AM slot. We open at 5 on weekdays. If your kids are on the 7:20 middle school bell, training before the house wakes up is often the only hour that’s genuinely yours.
The drop-off-to-gym handoff. Elementary drop-off around 7:45 puts you at the gym by 8 with a clean 90 minutes before most workdays get going.
Mid-morning with the Kids Zone. For parents with kids not yet in school, the Kids Zone runs Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., plus weekday afternoons 4 to 8. Ages 1–11, up to two hours per child per day.
The Kids Zone is a supervised play area for parents exercising at TX Fitness — not a licensed child-care facility, and not regulated by the State of Texas.
Fall break and Thanksgiving are the same week for both districts. Those are the weeks routines break down. Going in with a plan — even a reduced one — beats writing off the whole week.
