Which School District Serves My Forney Neighborhood?
If you’re house-hunting around Forney, this trips people up constantly: a Forney mailing address does not guarantee Forney ISD. District lines don’t follow city limits or ZIP codes, and a few of the fastest-growing neighborhoods here sit on the wrong side of a boundary from what you’d assume.
Here’s what we were able to verify, plus the tool to check your specific address — which you should do before signing anything.
The Big One: Heartland Is Crandall ISD
Heartland is zoned to Crandall ISD, not Forney ISD. This surprises a lot of new residents.
Specifically: Heartland students attend Heartland Middle School and Crandall High School. (Heartland MS is the campus formerly called Crandall Middle School — it was renamed in fall 2025, which adds to the confusion.) Elementary is either Noble-Reed or Barbara Walker depending on where in Heartland you are.
Crandall ISD is a nine-campus district that’s grown about 57% in seven years, to roughly 7,485 students.
Forney ISD Neighborhoods
Forney ISD runs an unusual grade structure that’s worth knowing up front:
- Elementary — PK through 4th
- Intermediate — 5th and 6th
- Middle — 7th and 8th
- High school — 9th through 12th
Two comprehensive high schools: Forney High School and North Forney High School. The district has 26 campuses for 2026-27 and about 19,700 students.
| Neighborhood | Elementary | Then | High school |
|---|---|---|---|
| Devonshire | Griffin | Rhodes → Jackson | North Forney |
| Gateway Parks | Blackburn | Smith → Brown | North Forney |
| Windmill Farms | Blackburn / Dewberry | Smith → Brown | Split — see below |
Two Neighborhoods That Split
Windmill Farms is divided by US Highway 80 for high school. North of the highway goes to North Forney; south of it goes to Forney High. If you’re shopping in Windmill Farms, this is a real question to ask, because a single answer isn’t correct for the whole community.
Travis Ranch straddles a county line. The northern phases — Clubhouse, Governors, Tahoka, Maverick, Black Hills — appear to fall outside Forney ISD, likely into Rockwall ISD. Southern portions are Forney ISD, feeding Lewis Elementary and North Forney. We could not verify the northern phases confidently enough to state it flatly, so if you’re looking at north Travis Ranch, treat this as something to confirm directly.
Neighborhoods We Couldn’t Verify
We’d rather leave these blank than guess. Fox Hollow, Trinity Crossing, Diamond Creek, Overland Grove, Clements Ranch, and Meraki are all Forney ISD by district, but we couldn’t confirm specific campus assignments — partly because several of those names also exist as street names in other zones, which is exactly how confident wrong answers get published.
Check these individually.
How to Check Your Actual Address
Forney ISD publishes an address lookup tool called InfoFinder — it’s the district’s own authority on their maps, and it beats any list including this one:
For Crandall ISD addresses, contact the district directly.
What’s Changing for 2026-27
A few things worth knowing if you have kids starting this month:
- Jim and Linda Jacobs Elementary opens this fall in Forney ISD — projected around 750 students, with an expanded PK-4 Dual Language program and its own attendance zone.
- Rezoning affects elementary zones only. Blackburn, Claybon, Criswell, Dewberry, Henderson, Johnson, and Lewis are unchanged.
- Current 4th through 11th graders are grandfathered — they stay at their campus.
- In Crandall ISD, the new Performing Arts Center opens in December 2026.
Because Jacobs opens this month, every elementary assignment above carries some rezoning risk. One more reason to use InfoFinder rather than a list.
Once the School Question Is Settled
Working out is usually the next thing to fall off the list when a family moves, right behind unpacking the garage.
We’re at 127 E US Highway 80, Forney, TX 75126 — south side of the highway, which for Heartland, Gateway Parks, and Fox Hollow families means no crossing US-80 to get here. We open at 5 AM on weekdays, and the Kids Zone runs Monday through Saturday mornings and weekday afternoons for kids ages 1–11.
The Kids Zone is a supervised play area for parents exercising at TX Fitness — not a licensed child-care facility, and not regulated by the State of Texas.
