Charlie Kirk

September 24, 20252 min read

There are rumors spreading about our views on Charlie Kirk's assassination, and I was encouraged to write something about it.

My wife and I lived in Los Angeles during the Covid lockdowns. The whole thing is sort of a blur, but it must have been the summer of 2020 that all the churches were closed, including the one we attended in Thousand Oaks. But one church in the area defied those orders--Godspeak Calvary Chapel. Since my church didn't yet have broadcast services, I watched the livestream of Charlie Kirk preaching there. They were one of the very few churches in Southern California to have anything going on at this time.

I don't recall the message, but I recall the courage. So for me, Charlie Kirk has always been associated with standing up for the Christian faith against the local and state government in California. From then on, I paid attention when I saw him pop up on my social media from time to time defending various conservative issues but imprinted on my mind was him defying what I frankly still think was a demonic order to shut down churches in California.

I saw the headline that he was assassinated and didn't believe it but then saw the video. My dad passed away Sept. 9 of last year, so I was still pensive from that. Then the assassination. Then 9/11 (I was in Texas History class and still remember that day). Just a terrible week.

We went to Houston this past weekend on a little family road trip and watched/listened to Charlie's memorial on the way back--the joys of modern technology. We both cried. But we are hopeful that perhaps even billions of people will hear the Gospel from this event as a result.

The particular rumor was we unfollowed someone on social media due to their views on Charlie Kirk's assassination. That is categorically false. We unfollowed most people because we use the gym Instagram account for work, e.g. seeing gym/fitness creator content and staying up to date with local businesses.

All this said, any reader should take the above as a factual description of my personal experience of Charlie Kirk, and my particular emotions around the event of his assassination.

Anyone is welcome at TX Fitness, even if you had completely opposite emotions from me. We are a gym. Come work out.
